My Story

One Sunday afternoon, I was reading a book on how the Proverbs 31 woman would extend her hands to help the poor and needy. Inspired, I asked Jesus in what ways can I help the poor and needy since financially I'm tight. He led me to Matthew 6:21. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. At that point in time, I felt that Jesus wanted me to look at what I spent on to know where my heart was.

After going through my monthly expenses, I told Jesus that I really don't know how to cut down on my expenses further. I asked Jesus to either help me to cut down my expenses miraculously or increase my income. After I had prayed that, I realised that I had boxed God in my limited intelligence. So, I declared that His Ways are higher than mine and He can help me in ways that are beyond my imagination. After the declaration, I had an unexplained excitement to see God's amazing work after my prayers.

On the following Monday afternoon, I suddenly received a call at work from the art studio I used to learn painting. The lady on the phone told me that someone was interested in buying a painting that I had placed with them 3 years ago. When I heard that, I was overwhelmed with God's goodness and His answers to my prayers just the day before. He is indeed my Jehovah Jireh, my Provider!

After a few days, Jesus reminded me that His answer to my prayers on Sunday is not only to remind me that He's my Provider but that He will provide if my heart is with helping the poor and needy. I don't have to worry about my financial constraints.

So, after much prayers, I have the idea of selling paintings as a source of income to give to the poor and needy. However, I was not confident in selling my paintings and was resisting the idea, asking Jesus to take away the desire if it was not from Him. Not only did He not take away the desire, He sent different people to encourage me and He gave me the word, Joshua 1:9 through a sister-in-Christ and I finally plucked the courage and set up Agape.Atelier.

How this journey will continue, I do not know but what I do know is that God is with me, I do not need to fear.

Father, if You say "Yes", I will do my best!

- Your daughter, Joelle
